| Celebrating 40 years of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway and the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act |
|
2008 marks the 40th anniversary of Memories of a lazy day in the sunshine...waters lapping at the edge of the canoe...keeping track of muskies swimming slowly on the riverbed...frogs singing...a great blue heron that seems to be playing tag... What are your memories of the St. Croix and Namekagon Rivers? What are your hopes for their future? Thanks to the vision of Congress in 1968, these great rivers are preserved in their natural beauty for us to enjoy. They are jewels of Northwestern Wisconsin and the Midwest. Take Me to the River commemorates the 40th anniversary of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway and the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act with events and service-learning projects.. Working cooperatively, the National Park Service, the University of Wisconsin-Extension and the University of Minnesota Extension are creating opportunities for people throughout the area to share in this celebration and promote stewardship and understanding of the Riverway, its watershed and unique resources. Whether you want to get out paddling on the river, help out with a project, or learn about the resource at community events, this is the year to... CELEBRATE!
